yoga retreat venue and locationYoga Eat Swim Relax Breath - Repeat

Your invitation to a challenging, relaxing, fun and sun filled week of Ashtanga Yoga with great vegetarian food and great company in an inspiring location- a large villa in rural Andalucia with dedicated indoor and outdoor yoga studios and a pool, set in 5 acres of private woodland, fruit orchards and ancient olive groves surrounded by rolling hills and pine forests.

The Yoga

This retreat/holiday is an ideal opportunity to develop and deepen your Ashtanga Primary Series with daily practice in a small group (max 12) in a beautiful setting with an experienced Ashtanga teacher. There will be a ‘Talk Through’ or Mysore style class each morning, and afternoon classes exploring asana techniques, pranayama and meditation. We will look in detail at some of the more accessible advanced postures where appropriate, such as arm balances, back bends, head stands and hand stands. In the second part of the afternoon class we will learn Pranayama preparation and breathing techniques leading into meditation practice.

The classes will be suitably challenging to all levels of experience with the aim of building confidence in your yoga practice over the week. There will be plenty of opportunity to talk about any aspect of your practice and get individual help on any aspect of it. It won’t of course be compulsory to take part in all sessions!

Beginners

As well as the full Primary Series class there will be a late morning beginners' class to introduce the Ashtanga practice to anybody new to yoga or unsure about their capabilities. Great for partners who haven't practiced before! Plenty of time here to look at any modifications you might benefit from in specific postures. Afternoon sessions will be open to all levels.

Food and Accommodation

The villa is a beautifully renovated Hacienda or farm house near the small and picturesque village of Montefrio, an hour north of Malaga airport and 45 mins from Granada. It’s a great area for hiking, running, mountain biking and horse riding and the Spanish countryside is at its best at this time of year. Or you could just relax by the pool- there’s even a sauna to sweat out any toxins you might have left after all the yoga! Previous guests of the villa have given it great reviews. And yes, it has broadband connection.

The retreat will be full board with two professional chefs coming in each day to prepare and serve excellent quality vegetarian lunch, evening dinner and a self service breakfast.

The city of Granada and the historic Alhambra Palace (declared a Town of Historic and Artistic Interest in 1982), are less than an hour away and would make a good ‘rest day’ trip to see the sights and maybe a Tapas evening.

The Cost

The cost is £650 per person based on sharing a twin room with en-suite (slightly higher for single room supplement) including all food and yoga. Flights and transfers are additional. Bristol to Malaga is approximately £45 each way at the moment (Ryanair) and the transfer will be approx. £45 return (tbc).

The Teacher

I have been practicing Ashtanga for 14 years and teaching it for 7. I teach both Mysore and Led classes as well as workshops in and around Bath in the south west of England and remain as enthralled with Ashtanga as I was on first seeing it. The key to this truly holistic body, mind and spirit system is to build self reliance through a regular daily practice. Freedom through discipline.

If you are interested in coming along provisionally or definitely, it would be great to hear from you asap. Please get in touch with any questions.
